Plunky shows oneness

The band entered the stage while MItch Malone from Radio One's 105.7 Kiss FM introduced our own Plunky and Oneness. Plunky opened with pure energy and jazz funk, electrifying the audience. Everyone I spoke with In the audience expressed appreciation for jazz at this level in Richmond, in fact, they requested more. 8 pieces shut the place down.
All were in awe and moved by the rhythms and swagger of this 8 piece band called Plunky and Oneness. Carl Lester and a young blood named D.J. Williams on guitar, Muzi Branch on bass, Tonya Lazemby Jackson and Lucy Kilpatrick on keyboards, Tonya and Charlayne Green (Chip) on background vocals, Jamiah "Fire" Branch on electronic percussions, Derrick Simmons on drums and Plunky Branch on sax. The show was well attended and totally entertaining. This display of oneness proves that Richmond does like and support jazz venues.
From Plunky's "Meaning of life" to Bob Marley's "Stand Up" to Franky Beverly's "Joy and Pain", Richmond was found digging Plunky and Oneness.
Plunky showed oneness as his band entered the stage with the addition of "keyboard player extraordinaire, Lance Dickerson to back up Phil Perry. Picture this. Plunky's band and Mr. Perry as one opening with "La La means I love you". Mr. Perry believes in the power of romantic music to keep people together and so his rendition of "Living for the love of you", in which he whistled a full two versus floored most.
Phil Perry

Mr. Perry also believes that there is no school like old school. He told the story of his 15 year old son saying to him, "dad listening to the radio of today is cool, but you can blow". Obviously this statement made him proud. Phil Perry stated that he never thought in his wildest dreams that he would be used in the way he is used to bless people with his voice and he was humbly thankful for the opportunity to sing for us.
Mr. Perry also stated that the moment the note comes out it comes from up above. He entertained us from start to finish and he said he will be back. He asked the audience to share the experience with friends who were not there so that a larger venue is needed next time. If you missed Plunky and Oneness with Phil Perry you let one entertaining jaw dropping jazz showcase of extraordinary talent get away. We at www.WRJO.net encourage you not to miss the next big thing in Richmond jazz.
